Idaho Writers League – Annual Writers’ Convention – Sept 23rd and 24th

This year the Idaho Writers League is having their annual convention in Pocatello at the Clarion Inn. Everyone is welcome to attend.

To get program details, costs, and registration form, visit the league’s website at http://www.idahowritersleague.com.  They have special fees for partial attendees, with or without meals.

The writers conference will start off at 9am Friday morning with some good motivational speakers.  You will be able to choose among several workshops to attend throughout the rest of Friday and Saturday.  This is a great chance to meet a visiting publisher and other experts, as well as chat with fellow writers of all genres over luncheon and the banquet.

They mentioned having a book fair if you want to bring your published books to sell.  If you need more info about that, or have questions beyond the website info, call the Pocatello chapter coordinators: LaDean Messenger at 237-9289, email delphicden@aol.com or Alice Dunn at 238-7547, email ladeanm@cableone.net.

A good turnout will look good for the writing community in Pocatello.

Happy Earth Day!

We just returned from a pleasant Earth Day event in the local park. I bought a couple of tee shirts, ate a baked potato, listened to some good music, and picked up a tomato plant for my garden. Hope you all had a wonderful Earth Day as well, and a Happy Easter.   – Sher

I will be signing my books at the Book Fair event on Friday March 11th 4-6pm in the Bengal Cafe at Idaho State University’s student union.

My local writers’ group the Minnie Howard Writers will have a table at the Book Fair showing works of our members and offering information about visiting or joining our writers’ group.  Hope to see you there!

IWL 2010 Writing Contests

I enjoyed the privilege of judging some of the entries for the Idaho Writers League annual contest last week. What an impressive array of talented young writers we have in Idaho.  It was a hard decision to chose winners and honorable mentions, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading every entry.  You can join or find more information about the IWL by clicking on the above link to their website.

Rome’s Eternally Cool hip hub

For those Romaphiles like me who long for a touch of modern Rome in their lives, I suggest you visit the Eternally Cool website  http://eternallycool.net.

Eternally Cool is Rome’s hip hub where you can keep up with all that’s happening in the world’s oldest and coolest city.  From art to food, from fashion to furniture, from advertising to literature, and from street life to art exhibits, they will keep you up on everything that makes Rome eternally cool.

They never fail to make me smile with some weird or funny item of interest.  You may especially appreciate Michelangelo’s mural on the office wall with God’s creation finger pointing at the elevator button. (Click on the Previous Entries link at the bottom of their webpage to see this picture and others.)

Minnie Howard Writers Group

We enjoyed an exciting afternoon at the Rocky Mountain Writers’ Festival on Friday. I met a lot of new people – avid readers and writers alike.  Being a college town, Pocatello has an amazing supply of poets, writers, and literary events.

Our Book Fair table attracted several folks interested in our local writers’ group, the Minnie Howard Writers, which meets on the third Saturday of every month from 4-6pm at the Minnie Howard Room at the Marshall Public Library in Pocatello.  Feel free to contact us for more details or just show up and see what our group is about. The meetings are very casual and friendly. We would love to meet you.

Welcome to my new blog

I am still in process of building this space, so bear with me while we get up and running.  Talk to you soon.
